Mary A. Frate, 81, of Johnson City, NY, passed away unexpectedly Monday August 28, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Michele and Anna Frate; infant brother, John D. Frate; brother, Mario L. Frate; brother-in-law Richard Fitzpatrick. She is survived by one brother and three sisters, Michael (Mickey) Frate, Antoinette Fitzpatrick, Rita (Bill) Sopchak, Linda (Ken) Stica; special nephews and nieces, Michael Frate, Lisa (Simon) Marle, James (Adela) Frate, John Frate, Marina Frate, Matthew (Nicole) Sopchak, Christopher Sopchak and especially Jason Stica, Brian Stica and Nicholas (Kristen) Stica who were very close to her; several grandnephews and grandnieces including Lexi who brought her so much joy during her failing health and many special cousins. Mary retired from IBM after 34 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She then retired from Sam’s Club after 11 years and later worked for Conti Jewelers part time for several years. Mary was always a very active person who loved volunteer work. She was a 29 year volunteer and former board member for the American Red Cross. She spent 40 years volunteering at the B. C. Open and Dick’s Open as well as helping out for over 20 years for the United Way. Helping others was her #1 Priority in life. She was the best sister and aunt you could hope for and was a wonderful and generous friend to anyone who knew her. Thank you to all her countless friends for your support and kindness during Mary’s journey through life. We will miss you Mary sitting in your favorite chair for Sunday Dinner.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 12 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church, Friday from 10 am until Mass time at 12 pm. In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in hers memory may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 613377, Memphis, TN 38101, your local Red Cross Chapter, or to your local Animal Shelter.
