Mary P. Loughren, 98, a long-time resident of Vestal passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014 in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She was born on March 23, 1915 to the late Frank and Anna Porter of Endicott. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, James T. Loughren; her daughter Mary Jane Loughren; her sisters and their husbands Rosaline (Alan) Borough , Geraldine (Francis) Casey, and Ruth (Stanley) Kulheim; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Jane Porter; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Morris and Evelyn Page; and her daughter-in-law Rosemarie Zmuda. She is survived by three loving children: James Loughren of Albuquerque, NM; Thomas (Rebecca) Loughren of Endicott, NY, and Patricia (James) Wagner of East Longmeadow, MA; five cherished grandchildren: Tiffany Loughren, Shane (Audra) Loughren, Anne (James Jensen) Wagner, Eric (Kelley) Wagner, and Nathan (Cheri Gann) Wagner; and 5 treasured great grandchildren: Astrid and Judah Jensen, Miles Wagner, Declan Loughren, and Rory Loughren. She is also survived by her brother and 2 sisters-in-law Gerald and Marietta Porter and Beverly Gallagher. Mary was blessed with many caring nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. Mary graduated from Union-Endicott High School and Cortland State College. She began her teaching career in a one room school house and taught many years in the Union-Endicott and Vestal School Districts. Mary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, NYS Teachers Association and a long-time member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. Mary was a kind and generous person who displayed great courage and dignity. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Catholic Daughters Scholarship Fund, Catholic Charities of Broome County or Special Olympics.
