Merton “Dick” Hill

d. November 14, 2018

Merton R. Hill, 86, of Binghamton NY, formerly of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 14, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. “Dick” was predeceased by his eternal loving wife, Kathleen, with whom he shared an inseparable bond. Also parents Ed and Ellen Hill, two brothers, Louis and David Hill, and loving sister-in-law Joanie. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Wood of Wildwood Florida, and Patti and Ron (spouse) Gumaer of Endicott, and son Steven Hill of Apalachin. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Dick had many loving friends throughout his life, including some residing in Arizona, and most of them living locally. These include very special lifelong friends Tom and Juanita Evanek, and Barb and Blaine Ellis. Blaine, along with daughter-in-law Brenda, and staff members from Elizabeth Church Manor, were truly the “earth angels” in Dad’s life, and their love, care and compassion for Dad will never be forgotten. Dad also had many “4 legged” friends over the years, and one particular furry friend, “Daisy”, will be forever close to his heart. Dick graduated from Vestal High School, and was a member of Scout Troop 221 of Vestal, as was officiating Pastor Mike Willis of Vestal United Methodist Church, where Dick was a lifelong member. Dick retired from IBM Endicott after 30+ years of service, and shared many interests including seeing his beloved grandchildren, watching stock car racing, going hunting and fishing, and his special passion for gardening. It’s difficult to remember seeing Dad without his trusty shovel or rake in hand, tending to gardening chores. Dad, you are going to be dearly missed by the many souls you leave behind, but your love, warmth, and devotion as son, husband, father and friend, are the legacy you leave behind. Thank you Lord for accepting Dad into your Heavenly Kingdom, where he joins those he so dearly missed and loved, and for steadying and comforting his restless hands, now embraced in your loving grasp. We love you Dad!
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 1-2 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, where Pastor Mike Willis will be officiating service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
