Michael “Mike” Yurko

Michael J. Yurko, residing at The Hearth at Castle Gardens, Vestal, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18th at Willow point nursing home at age 82. Michael battled Alzheimer’s for about 7 years. He was predeceased by Lois Yurko, the mother of his children; his father, Michael D. Yurko; mother, Anna Picket; and brother, David Yurko. He is survived by his four sons, Michael T. (Tim) and Christine Goodrich, Mark T. and Shannon Yurko, Scott D., and William A.; grandchildren, Michael, Jessika, Heather, Arika, Zeb, Sidney, Brandon, Scotty, Tara, and Kyle; great grandchildren, Logan, Kodie, Payton, Sophia, and Brynlie; great great-granddaughter, Karsyn. Michael was a high school graduate of Binghamton North High School in 1957. Michael was a former member of the Elks and the American Legion, and he was in the U.S. Navy for 3 years. He was a member of the Most Holy Rosary church and later, a member of Our Lady of Sorrows. He retired from IBM as a tool and model maker. Mike was well known around the town of Maine and Endicott. He loved to listen to local bands and one of his favorite spots was Toppers bar in West Corners. He was an avid biker and he rode all over the country with his close friends. They rode to Sturgis more than once and talked about the trip when he averaged something like 200 miles a day for 14 straight days.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday 11 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Wednesday from 10 until Mass time at 11 am. Expressions of sympathy in Mike’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the American Heart Association.
