Michelina “Mickey” Stancati

d. May 19, 2022

On the evening of May 19 our beloved mother Michelina known to all as Mickey passed away peacefully at Wilson Hospital. She was 98 amazing years old.
Born April 24, 1924 the 11th of 12 children to Joseph and Filomena Battaglini. Mickey grew up on Oak Hill Avenue surrounded by her loving family and helping out before school in the family Bakery.
In February of 1945 she married our dad Rocky Stancati who predeceased her in 1999. She was also predeceased by her parents, all her siblings and several nieces and nephews.
Mickey was a lifelong resident of Endicott, a proud 1942 graduate if Union Endicott High School, former cheerleader, home coming queen as well as an avid band and football booster for many years.
She was also a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church to which she was wholly devoted. She served for many years as the chairman and then chairman emerita of her beloved pepper cookie committee team during the church’s annual feast days.
Mickey is survived by her loving children Bernard (Carolyn) Stancati of Colorado and Melanie Tobin (Mark Himmelein) of Florida, her dear friend of 90 years, Betty Conti, several nieces, nephews and her many friends at Ideal Senior Living where she resided for the past several years.
Mickey was a loving, caring person with a kind and generous heart and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She left an impression on hearts everywhere and will be deeply missed by all. In the past two years when health challenges seemed overwhelming, she never lost her faith in God and her love for life.
The family wishes to thank our cousin Eileen Buckingham who spend countless hours with Mom in good times and bad, her devoted aide of many years Sharon Witte and the 5th floor staff at Ideal. Special thanks also to Mary and Linda of the activities department for all their kindness and caring.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Thursday from 4-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Mickey’s name to the Union Volunteer Ambulance squad or St. Anthony’s Church.
