Armenouhy “Minnie” (Poochigian) Caton of Endwell, New York passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024, at UHS Binghamton General Hospital in Binghamton, N.Y., at the age of 98. She was born in Binghamton, N.Y. to parents Bagdasar (Kazanjian) & Sarah (DerGarabedian) Poochigian on November 23, 1925 and was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School in Binghamton, N.Y. In 1954 she married her loving husband, John “Jack” Caton in Binghamton, N.Y. and was a devout wife and supported him in his U.S. Air Force military service and government work, where they traveled extensively and lived overseas both in Germany and Japan. Minnie was a long time well-respected employee and retiree of the Prudential Insurance Company. Minnie is predeceased by her beloved husband, “Jack” of 62 years and by her brother, Arsen Poochigian, and is also survived by Arsen’s wife, Palma Theresa (Morizio) Poochigian of Delray Beach, Florida. She is survived by her brother-in-law Marshal Caton and predeceased by her sister-in-law, Lisa Caton, both of Frostburg, Maryland. Minnie is also survived by her three loving nieces: Rene’ Ann Pochop and husband Timothy Pochop of South Burlington, Vermont; Gail Jean Coniglio of Weston, Florida; and Kim Marie Olsa and husband Anthony Olsa of Endicott, New York. She is also survived by her grandnieces and grandnephews, Gabriella Marie Olsa, Alexandra Shaw Pochop, Anthony Arsen Coniglio, Ethan Jack Pochop, Courtney Jean (Coniglio) Guevara and husband Eduardo Daniel Guevara, and Gianna Marie Coniglio, all who she always held dear to her heart, along with her many loving Armenian cousins and other relatives. Minnie had a devout faith and was an active member of her church community at Northminster Presbyterian Church of Endwell, N.Y and in February 2012, she and her husband “Jack” became Deacons there and served as longtime members of the church choir. Minnie was as an avid reader, enjoyed her luncheon outings with family and friends, as well as her volunteer work at her church. She was known for lovingly carrying on many Armenian traditions and dishes and was a proud lifetime member of the Armenian Relief Society. Minnie is also predeceased by many other family members who experienced the Armenian Genocide, many who emigrated to the U.S.A. in the early 1900’s from what was known historically as the Kharpert area of ancient Armenia from the city of Peree. Minnie cherished and was very grateful for her life-long friendships of her Park Manor neighborhood in Endwell, N.Y., as well as for the many long time loving caregivers and the medical team of UHS; all who treated her like family.
Calling Hours will be held from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M., just prior to the Funeral Service, being held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11 A.M., at Northminster Presbyterian Church located at 711 Farm to Market Road in Endwell, N.Y. A Burial Service will immediately follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park, 3997 Old Vestal Road in Vestal, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Armenian Relief Society, or to Northminister Presbyterian Church in Endwell, N.Y., or to St. Gregory The Illuminator Armenian Church in Binghamton, N.Y.
