We are saddened to say that Neil Richard Arvonio, 65, of Vestal, passed away at home on December 16, 2023 after courageously fighting cancer for many years. The world became a better place when he was born in Scranton, PA on May 26, 1958, the son of Neil Perry Arvonio and Alice (Strempek) Arvonio.
Graduating from Union-Endicott High School, (1976) and Broome Community College (1978), he went on to work in the IT Departments at IBM (Endicott, NY), Lockheed Martin (Owego, NY), and United Health Services (UHS) at the Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY, where he retired in September, 2023.
A devoted father to his son Jacob, the light of his life, above all, Neil loved his family - his mother and father, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends! He was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giant fan and an avid golfer. For over 25 years, he ran the Arvonio’s Fly’s Open Charity Golf Tournament with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Always a sellout, attended by family and friends far and wide, he dedicated his 25th Anniversary Tournament to his mother Alice. He also loved to sing and play the piano, particularly during trips to visit Arvonio cousins in California.
Neil was pre-deceased by his parents and leaves behind his son, Jacob “Jake” DiRado-Arvonio, brothers Richard (Faye), North Myrtle Beach, SC; David Arvonio, Endicott, NY; sisters Susan Arvonio-Fabian (Ken), Endicott, NY and Judy Arvonio-Farro (Doug), Vestal, NY; nieces Nicole Fabian (Josh), and Alison Fabian-Gillen (Jonathan); nephews Matthew Fabian (Leana), Christopher Fabian (Baille Marotta), and Michael Arvonio. He is also survived by the mother of his son, Deanne DiRado, grand niece Lila Rose Fabian and grand nephews Aniello “Ani” Fabian and Matteo Arvonio, and many cousins throughout the Scranton, Pennsylvania area, California, and around the country.
May the wonderful memories of times gone by keep Neil in our hearts for eternity.
Neil’s legacy will endure in the wonderful memories and in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to be touched by his sense of humor, loving nature and smile. Rest in Peace!
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 am, Saturday, March 23rd at St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in honor of Neil Richard Arvonio, to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org. In so doing, you can continue, as Neil did to give back to help so many in his fight against cancer.
