Padhma Gopalan

d. January 11, 2023

Mrs. Padhma Gopalan, 1944 - 2023
A beloved mother, grandmother, Mrs. Padhma Gopalan, wife of (Late) S. Gopalan, went on her eternal journey peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on the morning of Wednesday January 11th, 2023 in Vestal, NY.
She was always very proud of her 3 children; a brave lady who always strove for the children to be together, despite many challenges. Her recent years were filled with pride from her 5 granddaughters, mostly having fun with them, singing, dancing and reciting stories. She came from nothing and always took pride in having built her own home with “day to day savings done like a sparrow”, carried with her years of precious belongings from the family’s childhood, and numerous adventures stored meticulously in iron cast trunks! She shared a love filled childhood with 5 sisters and 4 brothers. She always enjoyed singing and dancing from an young age till as recent as her passing…. she never let Ovarian Cancer come in the way of her joie-de-vivre!
Padhma was predeceased by her husband, Mr. S. Gopalan. Padhma is survived by her 3 children Subbu Iyer (Lavanya) from Toronto, Balki Iyer from NJ and Lakshmi Poranki (Sri Poranki) from Vestal, NY; siblings Mr. B. Shankarnarayanan, Mrs. Alamelu Manga and Mrs. RamaDevi from India; sister-in-law Mrs. Saroja Jagadeesan from India and many nieces and nephews. She is very proudly survived by her grandchildren Meera Iyer, Sneha Poranki, Shruthi Poranki, Maya Iyer and Anya Iyer who she calls her “five pearls”.
We would like to thank Lourdes Hospice for making her last few months comfortable in her own environment and providing exceptional care. Special thanks to Ms. Brittni Hartman for her compassionate care. Family would also like to specially thank Dr Suchet Patel and his staff, Dr Shilpa Sambidi, staff of Lily Court at Ideal Nursing home for their care during her short stay.
Family will receive friends on Mrs. Padhma’s final religious rites and remembrance which will be held at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St, Endicott, NY 13760 on Sunday Jan 15th, 2023 from 4-6pm. Please find here a link to join virtually https://youtu.be/JTbq78wAUpU

In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her own desire for comfort and dignity of care for older people in need, donations can be made to Lourdes Hospice (https://healthcare.ascension.org/locations/new-york/nybin/binghamton-our-lady-of-lourdes-memorial-hospital/donate).
