September 16th, 2023 Pamela Joyce Scales devoted wife and mother died after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s. Her last moments before going home to heaven to rejoin those who had gone on before her were evidence of her deep love and care for her husband Roger Irvin Scales. Pam’s life was filled with many significant accomplishments, but her marriage of 60 years was her foundation. During the 79 years Pam was alive her gifts, talents and preserving spirit surfaced while she and Roger coached softball for the young ladies of Maine, while she made excellence the central quality of her role as Girl Scout leader, while she and Roger attended Tractor Trailer School and got licensed, while she and Roger built a successful hunter safety program, a community asset, that received their time and energy for over 50 years and allowed her to achieve Master Instructor status and the honor of representing New York State at a National Conference in Oregon. Pam’s integrity was evident each of the 25 years she cared for the many children of the Maine Endwell School District riding her bus to and from school each day. She was known for her beautiful voice and singing solos. Pam is survived by two heartbroken daughters, Yvonne Ficke and Bernadette Cox, a cherished granddaughter, Makayla Cox, a loving brother Alan Mitchell; wife Jackie Mitchell and loving sister Judy Evans, a caring sister-in-law Joyce Welch and caring brother-in-law Gene Scales Sr.; wife Paula Scales. Pam is predeceased by brother-in-law William Scales. The family of Pamela Joyce Scales would like to recognize and thank the many health professionals at Lourdes Hospital, Lourdes Hospice, and Bridgewater staff who work with clients on the 4th floor. Pamela’s passing has left a painful void in the Mitchell/Scales extended family, as well as, the Maine Community, but her faith in Jesus Christ is what gave her lifelong hope and peace. Psalm 91, the prayer of protection proclaims; Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in shadow of the Almighty.
Funeral Services for Pam will be held on Sunday November 12 at 1 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Lourdes Hospice Foundation, 187 Riverside Drive Binghamton, NY 13905.
