Patricia Rein Schwadron Sbarra passed quietly from this world at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on February 17, 2024, after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was predeceased by her son, Stephan Schwadron, and her parents, Richard and Marion Rein.
Patricia is survived by her husband, William Sbarra; her children, Barbara Morton (Harold), Anna Schwadron, and Michael Schwadron (Jill); her stepchildren, William l Sbarra (Val) and Melissa Sbarra; eleven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Also surviving are her sister, Cathleen Ketchum (Malcolm); her brothers, Richard Rein (Nell), Douglas Rein (Mirsada), and David Rein; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and one grand “dog”ter, Cricket.
Beloved family member, friend, and teacher, “Patty” was known for her self-sacrificing generosity and unwavering kindness…as well as her decadent fudge. Among her many talents and accomplishments, she was an avid reader who succeeded in becoming a published author, herself; she was also a skilled photographer who chronicled the lives of her loved ones beautifully by always insisting, ‘Let’s get one more picture!’ She was a mentor and a friend to her vast number of piano students, many of whom remained in contact with her. For Patty, even something as simple and transactional as an eBay sale would result in a strong, lasting friendship. She was a hard worker who also knew when to be silly. She was unprejudiced in her compassion, going out of her way to make even complete strangers feel at ease. She was an artist, and she was an inspiration. If there is a heaven, Patty most certainly had a first-class ticket to that destination, and we can rest assured that, just as she did here on earth, she will look upon us lovingly and guide us gently in any way she can…while she entertains the angels with her charming melodies on the piano.
Thank you to the entire staff at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the care and compassion given to Pat.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours; a celebration of life will be held at a future date. Any expressions of sympathy can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
