Paul Sammons

Paul T. Sammons, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Elcor Nursing Center in Horseheads, NY. Paul was born in Towanda, PA on December 17, 1926 to the late Charles and Josephine (Kelly) Sammons, the youngest of 10 children. Paul was challenged from the beginning, born prematurely and with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, but against the odds of his time, lived and worked independently for many years, retiring from the Towanda School District after 25 years of service as a custodian. Paul was a peaceful and soft spoken man, always with a smile on his face. In addition to his beloved parents, Paul was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Mary (Jim) Beirne, Agnes (Dick) McMahon, Teresa, Genevieve, Charles (Kitty), Rita (Walt) Marlowe, Josephine (Harold) Foster and Reverend Joseph Sammons; brother in law John Fries. Paul is survived by his sister Regina Fries of Endicott, NY; also many nieces and nephews, including Kathy, Dan, Matt and Megan Lane of Endicott, NY who had the pleasure of looking after Paul in recent years and sharing many memorable holiday and birthday celebrations with him. The family wishes to thank the staff of Maple Creek Valley at Elcor for the kindness and care given to Paul during his time with them and also the staff of Care First for the additional supportive care given to Paul over the last 2 months. A very special thank you to Marsha Zwierlein who has been a devoted friend to Paul over the years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 11 am at Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Towanda, PA. the family will receive friends at church Monday from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am.
