Paul E. White, 89, died September 11, 2022 at James G. Johnston Nursing Home in Johnson City, NY with his family and friends at his side.
Paul was born July 2, 1933 in Williamsport, PA, to Leon and Mary Szybist Bialek (White). He was the youngest of nine siblings, all of whom predeceased him: Carl, Vincent, James, Thomas, Betty, Helen, Teresa and Dorothy.
A 1951 graduate of Williamsport High School, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves and Army. He was employed for more than 30 years by IBM Endicott as a computer programmer. He and his family lived in Endwell for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Lois (Batkowski) White, currently of Johnson City. He was a proud and supportive father to his daughter Lisa (Raymond) Witkowski of Glenmont, NY and son Matthew (Shannon Pfingstag) of New Orleans, LA. Also, grandchildren Olivia, Maureen and Christopher; sisters-in-law Judy (Richard) Wagner and Mary White; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul’s faith was the cornerstone of his well-lived life. He was a very active parishioner of St. Casimir’s Church in Endicott for decades, serving as a trustee, lector, eucharistic minister and more. He was most recently a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Endwell.
He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper during his youth and adulthood. He knew well the trout streams and woods of northern Pennsylvania and southern New York. He loved music in all forms, especially choral music, and sang as a tenor in his church choirs, the former Endwell Community Chorus and the BC Pops chorus. Proud of his Polish heritage, he also enjoyed polka music at home and at church festivals. He was a loyal New York Mets fan since the team’s founding, and a lifelong Civil War buff. He was always happy to help a friend, neighbor or family member, and was for years a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 pm, Saturday September 24 at Church of the Holy Family 3600 Phyllis Street. Calling hours will be held from 10 am until Mass time at 12noon. Burial will be held at a later date in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, PA.
The family would like to thank the care teams at Hilltop and JGJ for the fine care they gave Paul. Special thanks to William and Beverly Marsh for all they have done for our family.
Funeral flowers will be provided by the family. If you wish to make a donation in Paul’s memory, please consider Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, or the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra.
