Pauline “Jean” Hobbs Alton, of Endicott, NY, passed away Thursday, December 13th at the age of 96.
Pauline was born in Norfolk, VA on November 15, 1928. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Thomas, her parents, Elmer and Dorothy Hobbs, sister Frances Stefanko, her son Thomas (Jim) and daughter Teresa. She is survived by her daughters Katherine (Richard) Jones and Julia (John) Ferencik and her son Robert (Pamela) Alton. She also leaves behind her much-loved grandchildren Taylor (Gabe) Bosworth, Morgan (Stephanie) Jones, Emily (Gerald) Pierce, Brittany Ferencik, Parker (Aiman) Alton and Mitchell (Webb) Alton and great grandchildren Rooney Alton, James Bosworth, Vera Jones and Laine Pierce.
Jean graduated from Longwood College with an elementary education degree and taught for several years before marrying and starting a family. In the 1970’s she went back to substitute teaching before taking a clerical position at Canada Dry. After retirement she and Tom enjoyed volunteering at Meals on Wheels, Waterman Conservation Center and at the Events center at Binghamton University. They were avid bridge players and golfers and enjoyed traveling across the country and overseas.
The family would like to thank the staff at United Methodist Homes for their wonderful care of our mother for the last 10 years.
Services and burial will be held in Norfolk, Virginia in the spring.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or United Methodist Homes.
