Raymond “Dan” Avery

d. November 28, 2023

Raymond Danton (Dan) Avery, 91, of Maine, NY passed away peacefully at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Endicott, son of the late Donald and Marion Avery. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Kathleen (Mullins) Avery, children Tacey and Victor Clark (Christopher, Alissa), Candice and Drew Hoisington (predeceased Brittany, Courtney), Christopher Avery, Scott and Kim Avery (Lexie, Joshua), Darrin and Debra Avery (Taylor), Marian Avery and Chris Glazier, Todd and Denielle Avery (Maxwell and Spencer (their mother Lisa), Brielle, Caleb), great grandchildren (Marissa, Moses, Shayla) and several cousins.
Dan was a graduate of Broome Community College, achieving an Associates Degree in Automotive Engineering. After college Dan was a Tank Mechanic for the US Army during the Korean War. After the War, Dan worked as a Manufacturing and Quality Engineer at Smith Corona, Savin, Link, and McIntosh Labs, retiring at the age of 77.
Dan was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church as well as the Awaga Rider Motorcycle Club, where he won a track championship in 1978. He had a lifelong love of dirt bikes and motocross racing, which he passed down to his family. He loved nature and being outside on his ‘hobby’ farm, providing a good home for cattle, horses, and other livestock. Later in his life, the farm was replaced by trimming, pruning, and bush-hogging his acreage. Dan had a special affection for his 1951 Case Tractor. He was good with his hands, remodeling every room in the house, some rooms two times over.
The family would like to sincerely thank the care teams at Lourdes Hospital, Upstate Medical, and Vestal Rehabilitation Park, specifically Dr. Miller, Dr Jayaraman, Dr Bratslavsky, and the nurses and staff at Vestal Park Rehabilitation.
There will be no formal services at this time, the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
