Richard “Dick” Smith

Richard C. Smith (Dick), 68, of Endicott, NY passed away on February 12, 2022 after a long battle with Myelodysplasia. He fought a brave fight for several years.
He was predeceased by his parents Don and Jean Smith and his nephew Jim Newlon.
Dick is survived by his sister and brother in law Donna and Gary Newlon, Endwell, NY, brother and sister in law Tom and Patty Smith, Stuart FL; nephew and nieces Tom and Erika Newlon, Lawrenceville Ga, Michele Newlon, Chandler AZ, Jessica Smith Arlington, TX, and Lauren and Jeff Wilson Arlington, TX; great nieces and nephews, Payton and Brooke Newlon, Lawrenceville, GA; Amber and Derek Newlon, Chandler, AZ; Christian Smith, Arlington, TX, Audrey and Leia Wilson of Arlington TX. He is also survived by an uncle, Burton Sturdevant, Binghamton NY, an aunt, Pat Smith Whitewater WI, and several cousins.
Not only was Dick survived by his family, but he was survived by a dear and loyal friend Tom Baleno. Tom was like a brother to Dick and visited him every Wednesday for years at the nursing home taking him out for lunches and rides. He is also survived by a very dear friend David Picciano, who became a part of the Wednesday visits and lunch. The three of them had fun Wednesdays and they shared over 55 years of friendship. The family would like to thank John Veruto for his friendship and kindness to Dick.
Dick was an avid fisherman. He especially loved fishing and boating at the Thousand Islands. He cherished the years that he spent at the family cottage in the Thousand Islands with friends and family. He was very proud of the fact that he taught his nephews Tom and Jim the “art” of fishing, and how to drive a boat and car. Dick was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend.
