Robert E. Britton, 84, of Apalachin, NY (originally from South Bend, IN), passed away peacefully in his home on May 14, 2016. He was loved dearly and will be missed tremendously by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Roy Britton of South Bend, IN, and sister, LuCille Lewis of Benton Harbor, MI. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie Britton, daughters Gini (Bill) James, Silver Spring, MD, Debbie Roane, Suzie Lupo, Dr. Nancy Como-Lesko (Dave Lesko), Virginia Beach, VA, and brother-in-law Joseph Slicklen, Bowling Green, KY. Bob (“Pop Pop”) adored his grandchildren, Maegan Lockett, Jesse Lupo, Josh, Caitlin, and David Lesko, and Heather Flewallen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bob was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. A retiree of IBM, he joined the company in 1963 in Gaithersburg, MD. He was a 32nd degree Mason, belonging to Round Hill Lodge 533. He was a former member of the Kalurah Temple and Owego Elks Lodge 1039. He volunteered for Mended Hearts Chapter 262 at Wilson Memorial Regional Hospital. He was also a member of the Southern Tier Korean Veterans breakfast club. Bob was a diehard Notre Dame and St. Louis Cardinal’s fan and would never think of missing a game. He had a video business with his wife, Margie, called “Precious Memories on Video.” He was an avid photographer, car enthusiast, loved his model trains, Sinatra and Bennett’s music, trips to Tioga Downs Casino, Popeye’s chicken, and Mr. Goodbar chocolate bars. He loved his pets Ali, Lady, and Benji. Bob was often referred to as “the man of steel,” having survived many battles with his health over the last 9 years. Through it all, he never lost his unique sense of humor. He and his family would like to thank Dr. Choi, Dr. Yousef, Dr. Kashou, NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, Lourdes Hospice, UHS staff of North Towers 3 & 4, and CCU for the compassionate care he received recently and over the years. A very special thanks to Father John Martinichio, the McAvoy family, Larry Rafferty, Michael Lesko, Kermit Roane, and John Rao, as well as his other wonderful neighbors and friends.
