Robert J. Touhey (Bob), 94 of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the Ideal Senior Living Center. Bob was born February 4, 1921, in Sayre, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Betty, his grandson Joe Zunic, his parents, Francis and Helen and his brothers Donald and Jimmy. He is survived by his children Jack (Kathy), Diane Zunic (John), Tom (Katie) and Shelly Enfield. Also surviving are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Aimee Swisshelm and Avery, Olivia and Graham; Ryan (Kari) Touhey and Quinn and Rowan; Ali (Jeff) Lipinczyk; Alex and Matthew Sherman; Jay (Beth Ann) Zunic and Julianne, Jenna, Rylee and Sean; JP, Katelyn and Megan Touhey; Josh (Alyssa), Robert (Erin), Thomas and Mikki Enfield. Bob was a 1941 graduate of Union Endicott High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly gave up the 6 best years of his life faithfully defending the country he loved. While in the Navy, he served in both the South Pacific and Atlantic theaters as a chief petty officer. Following his discharge, he worked at the Endicott Boys Club to support his growing family. Later, he was hired by IBM as an accountant where he eventually became a member of the Quarter Century Club. Bob also moonlighted at several barber shops in the area. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Holy Name Society at Christ the King Church as well as belonging to the Knights of Columbus. One of the things he was most proud of was his volunteer efforts at St. Mary’s Home (present day Seton Catholic Central HS) where he acted as barber and positive male role model. In his, “spare time” he managed to build the family home in Endwell. He was an avid golfer, golf club maker and strong fan of the PGA tour. He enjoyed working on the putting green with his grandchildren and could regularly be seen at many of their sporting events. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine on Wednesday, August 5th at 11:00am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am at the church prior to mass. A special thank you to everyone at Ideal Senior Living Center for the kindness, understanding and compassion given to Bob over the last 5 years and to Dr. Bruce Bowling for his gentle loving care for the last 35 years.
