Russell L. “Russ” Race left the world in his way, quietly and with dignity, on January 11, 2022.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Lillian and Jerry Vosburgh, brothers Jim Fisher, Bill Fisher, and Randy Race, sister Penny Buck, and his special furry companions, Buddy and Cole.
Russ is survived by his loving wife, best friend, and the one he always said he was going to marry one day, Scotty Race. He is also survived by his sisters, Dee Scott, Pam (Don) Petcosky, and Patti Folmar (Jim Kennedy), his brothers Bud (Gaye) Fisher and Jack Fisher, his brothers-in-law Kris Buck and Randy (Lien) Cummings, his special Aunt Hope, and several nieces and nephews, including his nephew and close buddy, Audie Fisher. Russ leaves behind his children and grandchildren: Heather Race; Nicolette (Larry) Raley and their daughter Jillian; Danielle Langevin and her son Anthony; Robb (Carrie) DePhillip and their sons Dominic, Frankie, and Joey; and Anthony (KellyAnn) DePhillip and their son Angelo. He also leaves behind many close friends, including his loyal companions, Jax and Tyke.
Russ was born on June 24, 1949. He was a 1967 graduate of the Vestal Central School District. Russ retired from New Channels/Time Warner Cable after over 40 years. Despite battling numerous health issues, he took time to enjoy the simple things in life. Russ found pleasure in feeding the birds, taking long walks up and down his mountain, and listening to his favorite music. There were very few concerts he missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Russ’ neighbor, nurse friend, and angel who was with him until the very end, Julia Dorber.
We are all going to miss Russ more than words can say. He wouldn’t want anyone to be upset though. Instead, he would simply smile and tell them not to worry. After all, “It will feel better when it stops hurting.”
