Sharon L. Leonard, 76, of Maine, NY, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Thursday, July 18th 2024 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was predeceased by her husband, David (Dave) Leonard, her son Darren Dryer, her parents, Blaine and Mary Herrick and her brother Robert (Bob) Herrick as well as her best friend Rodney Dryer. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Malack and grandchildren Kevin, Katherine, Raymond and Nicole as well as her very special great-granddaughter Sophia, step-daughters Jennifer Leonard, Kimberly Leonard and Elizabeth (Tyson) Gamache and family. She is also survived by her brother James (Maranda) Herrick, sister Mary Jean (Jim) Bridges and her kitty Tobie.
Sharon was a graduate of Maine-Endwell and Broome Community College. She was employed by IBM San
Jose and IBM Endicott as well as Endicott Agway. Sharon served as a volunteer with Maine Fire Company and Maine Emergency Squad for many years. She also taught Broome County Smoke Divers.
Sharon was passionate about helping others as well as animals, especially all the kitties she rescued and gave a home to. She spent her life taking care of her family and was the go to person for anything and everything. If you had a question, she had the answer. If there was anything that needed to be done, she would figure out a way to do it. She enjoyed being outdoors and was always on the go running here or there to do this or that. Sharon was a kind, loving, generous, compassionate, brave soul who always put others before herself and was always there to lend a helping hand. She touched the lives of so many in this world. Sharon will be truly missed by both her family, friends and others that she came into contact with. On a final note, her favorite saying, "it is what it is". When you can't change it... make the best of it that you can.
The family will be holding a private service at Allen Memorial Home. Expressions of sympathy in Sharon's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (let's help fight this disease) or to any local animal shelter or rescue (Sharon's passion).
