Simon (Si) J. Williams, 95 of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, Oxford, NY. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Anne (O’Loughlin) Williams and a sister Jeanette (Albert) Blazicek. He is survived by a daughter Mary (Arthur) Carbonara, Birmingham, AL; a son Tony (Susan) Williams, Harrisburg, PA; a granddaughter Pamela (Michael) Hojnoski, Newton Lake, PA. He was extremely devoted to his two great-grandsons, Andrew and Christopher Hojnoski, whom he spent years helping to care for. He was their loving babysitter, playmate chauffeur and teacher, but their favorite activity was riding the many Broome County “Merry-Go-Rounds” together. Family vacations spent with the boys in Cape May were the highlight of many summers. Along with several nieces and nephews, he is also survived by his loving companion Jane Cannon of Johnson City. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific. He worked for many years for IBM, retiring in 1983, and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Si was an avid tennis player, runner, skier and a member of the Greek Peak Ski Patrol for over 20 years. He loved to travel, going on many ski trips with friends to Colorado, CA, Utah and Europe. He also liked to sail, enjoying many trips in the Caribbean with family and friends.
Family graveside services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the NYS Veterans Home, 4207 NYS Route 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
