Stephen “Steve” Hundiak

Stephen Hundiak, 92 of Vestal, NY, went peacefully home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
Steve led an incredibly full life. On October 14, 1961 he married his beautiful bride, Catherine F. Golden. He loved camping as they raised their family and he could often be found gardening or reading science fiction. He and Cathy enjoyed traveling internationally together to many places throughout Europe. He loved the beach and Adirondack vacations he went on with his family. He especially enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren at their homes, and to them, there was no better company. His family loved his French toast and bacon breakfasts and watching newborn deer under his apple trees on a bright summer morning. Steve was very active at Our Lady of Sorrows Church over the years, where he and Cathy found their close group of friends. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister and a teacher for RCIA and Confirmation. He was also an active member of the Elks Club of Vestal and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Western Broome.
Steve often reminisced about spending his youth on the banks of the Juniata River in Mount Union, PA. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Wyandotte, Michigan. He served honorably in the U. S. Army from February 1951 to February 1953, where he examined aerial photos and plotted them on map overlays. This ignited a love of maps and geography that would fascinate him for life. He was also a graduate of Electronic Institute, Detroit, Michigan – Electronic Engineering. He met the love of his life, Cathy, at Link Division of General Precision, Inc. He enjoyed a successful career at IBM Endicott where he worked for 30 years as an Electrical Design Engineer.
Steve was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Catherine F. (Golden) Hundiak, his parents John and Katherine (George) Hundiak and his brothers Mike (and his wife Phyllis) Hundiak, Jim Hundiak and Frank Hundiak. Stephen is survived by his children Catherine (Larry) Koppl of Bedford, NY, Elizabeth (Larry) Brocious of Apalachin, NY, Stephen (Dabeiba) Hundiak of Richmond Hills, NY, Maria (Mark ) Gural of Lopatcong, NJ and Patricia (Alan) Scott of Basking Ridge, NJ; and his treasured grandchildren, Patricia and Gabrielle Brocious, Natalie Hundiak, Victoria, Catherine, Mark-Luke and Stephen Gural and Colin and Cameron Scott. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Pearl Tanner, Carm Golden, Mary Fairchild, Noreen Purtell, Margaret (Timothy) Reardon and his brother-in-law Leo Golden. He is also survived by many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 19th at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Friendsville, PA. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday, June 18th from 4-6 pm.
