Steve Joseph Vavra 68, was called home to be with his loving Lord and Savior, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY. He took his final breath with his loving family at his side. Steve was an extremely devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, (pop-pop). He was a Godly example and will be deeply missed and forever loved. He was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Libra Vavra, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Reverend John and Yolanda Caletka, and brother-in-law, Armondo DiRado. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife; Debbie, caring daughters; Kimberly, Rebekah and Nicole, the joy of his life, his precious granddaughter; Gabriella. sister; Mary Ann Di Rado, brother; Richard Vavra, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Esther Caletka, nephews Armie DiRado, and Adam (Erin) DiRado, nieces; Danielle Caletka, Lynsey Moody and great niece; Addison DiRado. His animal companions; Marcos and Gretta were constantly by his side. They also are feeling the loss. Steve spent a lot of fun times with his fishing buddy and uncle; Dick Dodge. He had many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved very much. Steve retired from the U.S. Postal Services, he had worked for The DEC, and was employed by the Tioga County Boys and Girls Club. He served his country with pride in the U.S. Marine Corps in Viet Nam. (Semper Fi) He graduated from Union Endicott High School and attended Broome Community College. He was a fishing mentor to Adam and Evan Badertscher. Steve was known for his quick wit, his wonderful sense of humor,his famous holupki’s and the awesome fish fries he had after his fishing trips. Steve will be sadly missed by the many lives he touched. He was a member of the Christian Apostolic Church, Endicott.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 10 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Ralph Trozzi, Pastor of his church officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Christian Apostolic Church, 206 North Rogers Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760 or for Gabriella’s college fund.
