Thomas J. Alton, 88 of Endicott, died unexpectedly at Wilson Hospital Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on July 8, 1926. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Raymond and Mary (Henzy) Alton; sister, Marie (Arthur) Miller; brother, William (Lillian) Alton; and daughter, Teresa. He is survived by wife, Jean (Hobbs) Alton; brother, Roger (Frances) Alton; and sisters, Anne (William) Marable and Patricia (Morris) Cherry; along with sons, Thomas Jr. (Millie) and Robert (Pamela); and daughters, Katherine (Richard) Jones and Julia (John) Ferencik; grandchildren, Taylor Alton, Emily and Brittany Ferencik, Morgan Jones, Parker and Mitchell Alton. Thomas served in the Army Air Corp. from 1944-1945. He graduated from Virginia Tech University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Thomas spent 32 years with IBM Federal Systems Division. He was a long time member of Our Lady of Good Council Church, member of the Civil War Roundtable, the past president of Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, and volunteered at Waterman Conservation Center and the BC Open. Thomas was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He made friends wherever he went and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Funeral services will be held Friday 9 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 9:30 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, 705 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760.
