Thomas “Tom” Herman

d. December 22, 2016

Thomas D. Herman, 75, of Endicott, was welcomed into God’s loving arms after a 20 year battle with COPD on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Lourdes Hospital with his wife and children by his side. He was predeceased by John M. Herman and Rose Herman and his sister Dorothy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Antoinette (Sayuk) Herman; daughter Donna (Steve) Sisson of Richmond, VA; son Thomas C. (Lori) Herman of Endicott; five grandchildren Andrea and Caroline Sisson of Richmond, VA; Daniel Sisson of Charlotte, NC; Alex and Alyson Herman of Endicott; brothers John J. Herman of Northampton, PA and Roger (Nancy) Herman of Nazareth, PA; sister-in-law Margaret (Larry) Oberly and brother-in-law Michael(Sandy) Sayuk all of Northampton, PA; Aunt Margaret Sysko and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom graduated from Northampton High School in 1959 and Penn State of Allentown, PA in 1962. He retired from IBM Endicott after 30 years of service and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Tom enjoyed his early retirement pursuing his passions of hunting, fishing and sharing his handyman expertise with family and friends. He spent countless hours supporting his grandchildren, all affectionately known by his special nicknames for each of them. Tom enjoyed going out to dinner with Toni, rating restaurants by their Manhattans, scalding hot french onion soup and prime rib or steak. He lived by the motto “Anything worth doing is worth doing right”, and his care of his home was evident by the quote “With each repair a man makes, he improves more than his home. His sense of pride.” The family would like to extend their gratitude to Lourdes Home Health, Lincare and the entire health care network that compassionately cared for Tom over the years and kept him with his family as long as possible. Special thanks to Pine Knoll Road neighbors and many friends, especially John Lynn, Pauline Witt, Teresa Resavy, Sandy Parisi and Lucy Cronk, whose continual support was deeply appreciated.

Funeral services will be held Monday from 4-7pm at Allen Memorial Funeral Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott and at 11am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760 or a charity of your choice.
