Tony Saraceno

Tony T. Saraceno, age 91 passed away with family at his side on October 11, 2017 at Susquehanna Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City, New York. Tony was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Anna, his parents; Ignacio and Soprana Saraceno, brothers; Gregory (Josephine) and John (Helen) Saraceno and sister Antoinette Saraceno. Tony is survived by his brothers, Sam (Elizabeth) Saraceno, Frank (Barbara) Saraceno, Son Anthony (Elizabeth) Saraceno, Grandsons; Nicholas A. Saraceno, Andrew J. Saraceno and Anthony E. Saraceno, Nephews, Nieces and grand-nephews & nieces. Tony began his adult life in service to his country enlisting at 17 in the United States Navy and served proudly with the Seabees throughout the Pacific including Guam and Japan. After his discharge he returned home to Endicott and soon married his lifetime partner Anna Johnson in 1947 and became proud father to only son Anthony Michael shortly thereafter. Tony was a devoted husband and loving, attentive father who began a long work life to afford his family every opportunity. Tony worked for Endicott Johnson, Ozalid and G.A.F Corporations until he began a long and satisfying career at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, N.Y. He worked eventually in the capacity of Business Manager for many happy years from which he eventually retired. Tony spent numerous years volunteering his time and service to area agencies and charities. Many times with wife Anna by his side. His church home was Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Endicott for almost 50 years and there he volunteered in many venues. Tony also sponsored many charitable associations with an enduring emphasis on Veteran welfare including Paralyzed Veterans, V.F.W. And Wounded Warriors. Tony was a devoted volunteer and board member at the Broome County Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society where he served many years. Tony also worked with the B.C. Open Committee in the capacity of advanced ticket sales (perhaps due to having a Golf Pro son). Tony was an avid gardener and devoted many happy hours to maintaining beautiful landscape and a lovely garden of flowers and vegetables. Tony also enjoyed horse raising and made many happy trips to Saratoga with friends and family. Later in his life Tony served in perhaps one of his happiest roles as the doting grandfather of 3 grandsons. Many trips were made in retirement to follow son Anthony’s golf career and to Cortland as he celebrated the milestones of his beloved grandsons. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Susquehanna Nursing Facility for their tireless and attentive care. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to staff at Lourdes Hospital where Tony was often cared for prior to his ECF residency.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 12:30 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 1 pm. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Monday from 4-7 pm.
