Valentino J. Frigo, 80, of Endicott, NY passed away at his home surrounded by his family on June 25, 2024. Born in Endicott on October 12, 1943 while his father was serving in WWII, Val was the son of the late Valentino and Jean (Cross) Frigo. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Bert Karlson. Val is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Karen; son Jon (Renée) Frigo of Danville, Georgia; daughter Connie Frigo of Harrisonburg, Virginia; grandson Kole Frigo; sister Darlinda (Dave) Guidry; sister-in-law Marilyn Karlson; nieces and nephew Heather Register, Jennifer Wilson, and Michael Karlson; and lifelong family friends the Boehlerts. Val had an admirable 40-year career in building construction. As superintendent for Bill Gargano, Inc. (Endicott, NY), then project manager for Bearsch Compeau Knudson Architects & Engineers (Binghamton, NY), Val had a hand in the construction and remodeling of nearly every hospital and public school in the triple cities and many across New York state. He was forever observing the quality of construction of any building or home he walked into. He met the love of his life Karen while they were in high school and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Their marriage and love for one another is the gold standard of love stories. In their retirement, they loved traveling to Georgia to spend the winters where their children lived. For the past 25 years, German Shepherd Dogs stole Val’s heart. He and Karen rescued five of them over the years – their most recent one just 18 months ago - and he had an outsized love for their “grand-GSD” Raylan. Val was a veteran of the U.S. Marines; the most loyal NY sports fan of the Yankees, Mets, and Giants; and loved and owned muscle cars in his younger years, especially the Chevelle Super Sport. His morning coffee and reading of the local newspaper was a daily ritual he never, ever skipped. His insatiable thirst for knowledge of world and local news, state politics, sports statistics, and weather was second to none. Gentle, loving, unassuming, curious, patient, and smart as a whip, Val was so beloved and trusted by all who knew him. You couldn't find a better man, husband, and father. He will be deeply missed by his family. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 3rd at 6 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Allen Memorial Home from 5 pm until service time at 6 pm In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial donations to Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, NY, 13903.
