Virgil E Meredith of Endicott NY, age 82 passed away peacefully at Lourdes Hospital on February 15, 2024. He was born in Hughesville, Missouri, on February 21, 1941, the son of the late Russel and Eunice (Curry) Meredith. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri, from the University of Missouri at Rolla with a degree in Physics, and from Syracuse University with a graduate degree in computer science. Virgil was a long time IBM employee (IBMer) with over 50 years of combined service, a Senior Technical Staff Member, a recognized expert in z/VM Performance, and a friend, mentor, and inspiration to many who knew him and had the good fortune to work with him. He was an intensely competitive athlete and an avid hiker with a great appreciation for the National Parks. Virgil is survived by Suzanne M. Meredith, to whom he was married for over 40 years, his daughter Cynthia L. Meredith (Daniel Spencer) of Endwell NY; his son, Brian (Kara) Meredith of North Tonawanda, NY; his daughter Amanda L. Meredith of Alexandria, VA.; his grandchildren Amanda Kimler, William Kimler, Sarah Spencer, Bria Meredith, Nolan Meredith; his sister Laura Lujan; his sister-in-law Gloria Meredith; his brother William (Laura Kathryn) Meredith; his sister Ruby (Michael Pfaff) Meredith; his step-brother Nathan Benscoter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Meredith and brother-in-law Leo Lujan. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned.
The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.
