Virginia Grassi

d. June 22, 2015

Surrounded by the love and the comfort of her children, our mom was peacefully called home by our Lord Sunday evening. She was predeceased by our grandparents Michael and Mary Fargnoli, our dad Joe, her brother Angelo and many beloved cousins. She is survived by her daughters and son. Mary of Endicott, Christine (Sargent) and her husband Bill, Therese (Klempka) and her husband Don, Beth (Putrino) and her husband Mark, Francine and her love Dijaz Kenjar and her son Joseph. She is also survived by her five beloved grandchildren Joseph Sargent and (Kara Seay), Michael Sargent and (Catherine Scanlon), Gianna and Talia Putrino and her sons daughter Julia Grace. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church for 86 years. She got her nursing degree at the college of St. Rose in Albany and her teaching certification through SUNY Cortland. She worked near New York City as a young nurse and started her career at Binghamton General Hospital in 1964-1969 as a maternal and child health instructor. She went on to work for the Vestal School District for 22 years as a health teacher and school nurse when she retired in 1992 she continued to substitute until 2006. She piloted the parish nurse teacher program, did nursing assessments for the Broome County Council of Churches and volunteered at the Senior Center doing blood pressure screenings. She had a wonderful work ethic and was generous with her talents as a nurse. She was a member of the Daughters of Columbus for 10 years. She donated her time for funeral luncheons and baked for many events. She had a vivacious spirit and lived with tenacity, perseverance, and joy. She was so generous and giving of herself, her time, her knowledge, kindness and money. She gave to many charities but close to her heart was St. Anthony’s Parish. Her faith was her life. She lived for us, her children and grandchildren and she lived for the Lord. Please, if you feel inspired, give to St. Anthony’s food pantry in her name. We would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers from Lourdes Hospice and UHS homecare for their time, love and care of our beautiful Mother. They allowed her dignity and grace. God Bless you all. Remember her smile and zest for life and of course her great fashion sense. She knew how to wear a hat.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10 am.
