Walter D. Shaughnessy, “Tooie”, 90, passed away on February 26, 2017. The beloved husband of Frances Shaughnessy (nee Wallan) for 62 years; loving father of Bill (Maria) Shaughnessy; cherished grandfather of Nicole (Nick) Harris, Kristy Shaughnessy; dear great-grandfather of Julianna Harris; cherished son of the late Walter D. and Mabel Shaughnessy, Sr., dear brother of the late Joseph Shaughnessy and the late Richard Shaughnessy. Tooie is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friend to many. Tooie was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard and retired from the IBM Corporation after thirty-eight years of service. Walter not only volunteered daily at his local parish, Our Lady of Sorrows, he also volunteered for many years for the American Cancer Society in New York, driving patients to their appointments. He enjoyed bowling, golf, reading the newspaper and the Reader’s Digest. He was an avid chocolate enthusiast and faithfully watched the New York Mets. He lived most of his life in Vestal, New York always looking forward to sitting on the front porch and having happy hour every afternoon with his wife Fran. Walt & Fran moved to St. Louis in 2011 to be close to their family. He will always fondly be remembered with: “Roses are Red; Violets are Blue and Everybody Loves Uncle Too”
Visitation, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, from 4 until 6 pm. Funeral, Friday, March 10, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, at 10 am. Inurnment will be at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, Little Meadows, PA.
