William “Bill” Mcguire

William “Bill” McGuire, age 84, passed away on 12/31/17 due to medical complications. Bill was born and wed in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a graduate of Moravian College and moved to the Triple Cities in 1955. He is predeceased by his parents, William Charles and Margaret McGuire and his wife, Regina “Jean” McGuire and survived by his 10 children: Billy and Debra McGuire, Rose and Walt Pavelski, Mike and Donna McGuire, Kathleen McGuire, Mary and Larry Powell, John McGuire, Regina and Jim Parrillo, Trisha and Darrin King, Jamie McGuire, and Jennifer Sinclair; 21 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren and his devoted dog Bailey. Bill worked in the Vestal School system as an Assistant Principal and at one time coached baseball, basketball and football. In 1977 he became Vestal High School’s head football coach and in 1978 led the Golden Bears to an undefeated championship season. He was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed following the New York Yankees, Notre Dame football and his many visits to South Bend to see the Irish play. His other passions were polka dancing with his wife Jean, traveling, (which included six trips to Ireland), his cottage on Page Lake, golf, humor and being an active member at Christ the King Parish. Bill’s philosophy of life had much to do with the way he coached: The importance of team work, character development, hard work and respect. He relished the term “Fighting Irish” which he personified to the very end.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass a Church of the Holy Family at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Tuesday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mercy House, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY, 13760. Go Irish!!!
