Zofia Deskur, 91, of Endwell, passed away on April 12, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Kazimierz Deskur. She is survived by her children Andrew (Leann Lesperance) Deskur, Christine (Rob) Spencer, Edward (Joanna) Deskur, and John (Monika) Deskur, grandchildren Aaron and Nick Deskur, Kathryn and Diana Spencer, Teresa and Catherine Deskur, and Toni and Maja Deskur, and siblings Alexandra Nawakowski, Jan Chrobok, and Bronek Chrobok. Born in Poland, Zofia left her homeland with her mother and siblings at age 12 soon after the Nazi invasion. Her father, a Polish colonel, was later evacuated with the army, and the family eventually found refuge in the UK. Zofia studied dressmaking in London and in the 1950s emigrated to the US where she met her husband. They proudly became American citizens and moved to Endwell when Kaz was hired by IBM. Zofia was a loving homemaker who devoted her life to being the best mother and wife she could be. She loved music, gardening, sewing, and her Polish heritage. She spent countless hours making jeżyki (Polish star Christmas ornaments) to raise funds for the Kopernik Observatory. The family would like to thank Ann Pierce and the staff at Castle Gardens and Vestal Park for their loving care of Zofia as her health declined in recent years.
