Maureen Boothroyd

d. September 7, 2014

Maureen Boothroyd, 55, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton after a courageous battle with cancer. Maureen was a devoted mother and wife, and believed her greatest accomplishment was raising her four children. She studied Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University, where she met her husband, Kirk. They married shortly after graduation in 1982. She was a WIC Nutritionist at the De Marillac Clinic at Lourdes Hospital, and has worked as a teacher in both the Union-Endicott and Owego-Apalachin School Districts. For the past 16 years she pursued her passions for nutrition, food and education, teaching health at Owego-Apalachin Middle School. Maureen was a personification of the adage, “If you need something done, ask a busy person.” Maureen served as a member of the Union-Endicott and Maine-Endwell P.T.A., was on the Board for the M-E Dollars for Scholars, was a chairperson for the M-E Post Prom Committee and has been a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years. Maureen took every opportunity to go above and beyond to support numerous school committees, athletic teams, and community organizations. She would do anything to help her children, friends, and students realize their potential and become the best that they could be. She was pre-deceased by her father, Francis Gallagher. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kirk Boothroyd, daughter and a son in law, Kathryn and Diogo Rodrigues, San Francisco, CA, daughter, Cara Boothroyd, Endwell, two sons, Thomas Boothroyd, Philadelphia, PA, and Daniel Boothroyd, Endwell. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Gallagher, W. Islip, NY, sister and a brother in law, Jennifer and Peter Pinola, Oakdale, NY and sister, Kerry Gallagher, Babylon, NY, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Maureen was a member of St. Joseph’s Church of Endicott.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 207 Hayes Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Maureen’s memory may be made to M-E Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 8722, Endwell, NY 13760.
