Michael George Egan went to his eternal peace Monday morning at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer. A native of Pittsburgh, Mike was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet “Pat” Egan. He is survived by five children: William, Thomas, John (Kim), Nancy Egan Deckner and Michael (Lou Ellen), nine grandchildren: Elisabeth, Paul, Rachel, Stephanie, Samuel, Alyssandra, Daniel, Peter and Jessica, and two great grandsons: Wesley and Landon. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, he had a tremendous work ethic, starting out in construction in Pittsburgh, then moved all over the country as an engineer for more than thirty years, then worked at Wegmans for 16 years. He was a faithful parishioner and usher at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Vestal. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He was an avid bowler and unbeatable at horseshoes. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Regina Frants and the staff at Southern Tier Pulmonary, Dr. Madhuri Yalamanchili and everyone at Broome Oncology, and the caring staff at Wilson Hospital. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 9 am at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, 165 Clifton Blvd., Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday from 4-7 pm.
