Norene T. Byer

December 8, 1927 — March 16, 2025

Norene Tingler Byer, 97, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. She married Aubrey Byer in 1951, and they raised three daughters, Barbara (Doug) Schmidt, Diane (Bryan) Sinicrope, and Linda (Todd) Hanenberg. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Karen, Derek, Rebecca, Kevin, Christine, Kelsey and Danielle, and five great-grandchildren, Elliott, Mia, Vicente, Karter and Ella. Norene was predeceased by her husband Aubrey, and a sister, Edith Edwards.
Norene was a born nurturer and caregiver and worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Broad Street School in Endicott. At home, she passed her love of cooking to her daughters as well as her tradition of baking many varieties of Christmas cookies to share with friends and family. She also tended beautiful flower gardens and canned the bounty from Aubrey’s vegetable gardens at their home. She was a leader of Girl Scout Troop 90 in Endicott for many years and taught girls to appreciate and respect nature on many campouts she led.
She was an avid supporter of Aubrey’s career as a music educator with the Vestal School system and the Vestal Community Band and could always be found in the audience at concerts. She and Aubrey enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren in New York, Colorado and Florida, and after retirement, they made several trips across the country in their camper.
Mom was an inspiration as a lifelong learner. After Aubrey passed in 2000, Norene acquired a computer and became to the go-to person for computer questions and taught others in classes at the senior center. When her eyesight failed from macular degeneration, she learned to use eSight glasses and continued to enjoy her reading.
Norene was a dedicated member of the Central United Methodist Church in Endicott and until recent years she was an active volunteer and Sarah Circle participant.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 11 am at Central United Methodist Church, 17 Nanticoke Avenue, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott on Wednesday, March 19 from 5 to 7 pm. Entombment will be at Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
We will always remember her as a loyal friend and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
