Dr. Philip D. Mottola, 98, of Morrisville, NC, formerly of Endwell, NY was reunited in heaven with his loving wife Miriam on June 28, 2018.
Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Philip graduated from Long Island University and from the L.I.U. College of Podiatry and he received his D.P.M. From N.Y. College of Podiatry. Philip relocated his family in the 1950’s to Endicott, NY to begin his practice of Podiatry. He was fondly nicknamed “Doc” by his patients and his many friends. He practiced until his retirement in 1996. Philip was an active member of his community through the Endicott Optimist Club and St. Ambrose Church as well as many Medical Associations. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Pauline Mottola, Miriam Mottola, devoted wife of 52 years, his son, Denis Mottola, Brother, Alexander Mottola and Brother in law, Mario Sbordone. He is survived by his children, Diane and James Julian, Endicott NY, Donna and David Arcangeli, Morrisville, NC, Daniel Mottola, San Diego, CA and Dr. David and Mary Ellen Mottola, Morrisville, NC. Philip is also survived by his Sister, Paulette Sbordone, Brooklyn, NY. He was”Poppy” to his grandchildren, Lauri and Pete Diamantakos, NY, Rachael Mottola, SC, Philip Mottola, FL, Gina and Brian Maduskuie, DE, Anthony Arcangeli, NC, Vincent Arcangeli and Fiancee Christine Hanes, NC, Mariah Mottola, NC and Kristin Mottola, NC, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Philip is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Philip was a highly decorated Veteran of W.W II, proudly serving as Sergeant in the US Marines Corps, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion Headquarters Company, Intelligence Unit. He served in the Pacific Theater including Guadalcanal and Peleliu Island. Philip was an avid Bowler and Golfer with 3 Holes-in One! He enjoyed the camaraderie of these sports and he played well into his 90’s! Philip most recently resided at Preston Pointe Retirement Community in Morrisville, NC where he enjoyed many activities and the company of many friends. His kindness, sense of humor and his wonderful smile will be missed as he never met a stranger. Our family’s deepest appreciation is extended to Transitions LifeCare Hospice as well as his devoted caregivers from Comfort Keepers.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday July 3rd at 10:30 am at St Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott, NY. Family will receive friends at St Ambrose from 9:30 until 10:30 Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
